Burris "EEKS" Out VIctory
Racing excitement reached a fever pitch as our youngest drivers locked horns and provided the best racing of the season. Kyle Scroeder aboard the KS Motorsports #11 fired the first shot with a thrilling last lap pass of #3 Carter Owens and #5 Chase Burris to take the heat win. Owens and Burris had swapped the lead several times during the heat before Schroeder slipped past both to secure the win at the line by inches. That however proved to be but the precursor of things to come in the "A".
As the green fell, Burris jumped from his pole slot to take the lead while Schroeder slipped past Owens for second down the backstretch, then Burris in turn 4 to take the lead. Burris would see potential misfortune on lap
4 when the left front spindle broke sending him skating to the infield. During the subsequent red-flag period, JRL officials and the parents of Owens and Schroeder decided to bring out the #13 car so Chase could continue. When the race resumed, it was Schroeder leading followed by Owens and Burris. They remained the same with Burris passing Owens on lap 9 for second. At the drop of the white suddenly Owens, Burris and Schroeder were 3 wide, side by side. With excited parents and spectators looking on the three headed for the stripe still side by side, wide open and only inches apart with Burris aboard a backup car "EEKING" out the win by inches with Owens second mere inches ahead of Schroeder. Good job Guys!!
Over in Thunderbolt/Superlite land defending champ Robert Guthrie raced wheel to wheel with Kellie Bullington in heat race action then again with multi time JRP champ Doug Bullington in the "A". Guthrie, the second generation racer showcased some new found speed in his Gebhardt Racing owned ALF chassis #11 crossing the stripe mere inches ahead of D. Bullington.
"We changed some things around a couple of weeks ago but didn't get to run it until this morning." Guthrie said after the feature. "Dad and Doug said it was gonna be faster and it is."
All in all it was arguably the best day of racing so far this season with plenty of close competition and alot of sportsmanship. Fans if you haven't made it out we invite you todo so. We're a little small in numbers but the action is great. Next event is August 7th 10:00 am with free grandstand admission come on out and see us.
